Competition time: Inkyrose's DTIYS challenge

Hi all! It's been a while since I added a journal entry here so I hope everyone is keeping well during these challenging times. I thought I'd jump on the #DTIYS (draw this in your style)bandwagon now that I've completed the first part of my detailed illustration series for my novel.


The competition should be pretty straight forwards and there are two options:

  1. Draw any four of these illustrations in your style and tag me, and the original piece in your post. Closing date for entries: Saturday 31 July, Midnight, GMT.

  2. Draw ALL four of these illustrations in your style and tag me, and all four original pieces in your post. Closing date for entries: Saturday, 28 August, Midnight, GMT.

Now for the part you've all been waiting for!

The winner of DTIYS option 1 (and sadly, there will be only one due to my time

constraints, although if there are two simply a-mazing entries that I cannot decide between, then I may reconsider) will win a detailed illustration of one character in the style of the portraits they have copied.


The winner of DTIYS option 2 will win an acrylic canvas painting from me of either one character, a still life or a landscape. A canvas such as the example below.

Terms and conditions:

1. For the prizes, I will not draw anything which contains nudity, sexual themes, violence, blasphemous imagery or gore.

2. The prize for option 1 will be digital only (as all the many elements have to be layered within photoshop.

3. Postage and packaging for option 2 (the

canvas) to be discussed between myself and the winner. Please allow 3-4 months to complete the canvas as I want to create something for the winner that is the highest quality I can produce. Any questions? Let me know below!

Guess who's back?(Slowly)

I know I said I'd be gone for six months, but I'm back! Give or take a year or so...

It's been quite a year- moving to a new area, a legal battle with ex-landlord to get deposit back, a family bereavement, an exciting new church...oh and a small thing called lockdown due to a global pandemic! What a year eh?


I'm slowly coming back to DA, I don't know how long it will be for, but I'll be uploading less art and probably commenting on other people's art more.


So, who's still around? What's your latest news? What are three things you're grateful for in 2020?

Gone fishing

Hi all,

I have decided to take a break from DA for a while, it's something I've been contemplating for sometime now but I feel it's the right decision to make.

Don't worry, I'll be back at the end of the year, but I've been drawing and creating art for almost eight years now without really allowing myself a break. I'm completely burnt out and I haven't been really happy with any of the artwork I've produced this year or gained any satisfaction from it.
Two major incidents have happened in the last six weeks that have really knocked the wind out of me and I need time to recuperate and refresh so that I can find the inspiration I had a few years ago.

But enough old woman grumbling!
I intend to use the next six months wisely and not just slob about on Netflix! I've been wanting to develop a creative writing blog to help and inspire fellow writers with their world creations, and brush up on my digital skills as well. So watch this space!
Thank you so much for all the birthday messages and to :iconthemusicalcc:, my first friend here on DA for the birthday present of Hetta, this year it really meant a lot, and I really appreciate the effort and kindness. :)

I'll still be active on Instagram if you want to contact me, and to those lovely, loyal followers who will still be around in six months- I'll see you soon!

Thank you to everyone for the inspirational, exciting and wonderful last 7-and-a-bit years, I've had such a great time here and made some fantastic friends!

Exclusive MerMay commissions!

Hello lovely folks!

So, ahead of #mermay next month, I am offering art nouveau style Mer May commissions such as this one:

I will only be offering 3 commission slots so first come, first serve! (I may open up a waiting list depending on work commitments).
Normally, for a piece this detailed, I would charge 40 Euros, but I'm offering a special discount: 25 Euros per piece.

Ts & Cs:
  • One character/person per piece (has to be mermaid/man themed even if your character isn't normally a merperson)
  • I won't draw anything offensive e.g. racist, sexist, graphic nudity/porn/gore etc.
  • If you would like your image shipped to you, then P & P will be extra
  • I only accept payment through Paypal
  • Payment is in advance- blame the stupid idiots who never paid me for this rule.
  • I don't offer WIPs so please send me as many details as possible about your desired commission piece.

New Year's Art Resolutions?

So, I was just wondering- has any one made any art related new year's resolutions?


I've made only two this year as I'm continuing last year's resolution of quality over quantity and producing more detailed and elaborate pieces- which will include a few landscapes this year. I also want to improve my watercolour painting skills and create more birthday gift artwork for DA friends rather than commissioning presents, but that is all time dependent, so some may still be commissioned!
